It\u2019s hard to believe, but your tot is only a few weeks away from that year-and-a-half mark! So much is going on with your kiddo at this age\u2014they\u2019re hitting milestones and growing by the day. If you\u2019re behind on your journals<\/strong> and photo collections, try to carve out some time to get those memories in there. But if this isn\u2019t your first baby, we get it\u2014you probably don\u2019t have time for baby books<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

17-month-old development & milestones<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Delayed walking <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Odds are, your kid has already gotten up and shuffled around the house, holding onto furniture, walls and mom\u2019s and dad\u2019s hands. But if they\u2019re crawling or planted on their rears and not walking yet<\/strong>, they\u2019ll reach that milestone soon enough. Some kids prefer crawling, some are content to sit around while their parents, grandparents and siblings run around, waiting on them hand and foot, and some are just plain lazy. If you\u2019re concerned, chat with your healthcare provider, but know that your angel is probably just taking their sweet time.<\/p>

\"USA<\/a><\/div>\n

Intellectual leap <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Those innocent days are over: Your kid now has the mental capacity to decide whether or not they want to be honest, patient, careful or helpful. They\u2019re developing a conscience<\/strong>, and you\u2019ll likely catch them deep in thought about how to handle different situations.<\/p>\n

Noisemakers<\/strong><\/h3>\n

That shrieking phase has officially begun. (Earplugs, anyone?) Kids scream for a bunch of reasons\u2014out of happiness, for attention and when they\u2019re ticked off (you can usually stop this behaviour by distracting them with something else\u2014littles have notoriously short attention spans). Oh, and you can be certain they\u2019ll use that high-pitched scream<\/strong> when they\u2019re throwing tantrums. Find more ways to get them to take it down a few notches here.<\/p>\n

Lovey-dovey time<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Is there such a thing as too much affection from an adorable tot? Come on, who doesn\u2019t love a good smooch? If they can\u2019t keep their little hands and lips off mom, dad and other family members (\u201cI just love Nana so much!\u201d), some experts suggest teaching them how to show love and respect boundaries<\/strong>, especially if they\u2019re trying to smooch little playmates who don\u2019t want to be smothered. But we\u2019ll gladly take it and give it right back with an \u201cI love you, too.\u201d Think about it: They won\u2019t be so quick to show affection when they\u2019re tweens and you become uncool.<\/p>\n

Diaper dilemmas<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\nIs your kid ready to potty train?<\/span>
\nThey\u2019re finally sleeping through the night<\/strong> (win!), but now they\u2019re waking up after a good night\u2019s slumber in pee-soaked jammies (ugh). This one\u2019s a tough call: Do you wake them up in the night to change their diaper or launder their sheets and PJs every day (eek)? Before you decide, consider a few tricks: Switch brands (other brands of diapers can work better for some wee ones), use overnight diapers<\/strong>, double up or add a cotton insert if you\u2019re using cloth diapers, and try to limit the amount they\u2019re drinking in the evening.<\/p>\n

Your life after baby<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Knocking boots post-babe<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Feel like getting freaky? (Nah, we didn\u2019t think so.) Don\u2019t worry if your sex drive has become non-existent; it\u2019s tough to get in the mood and keep the fires burning when all you want is the Netflix part of \u201cNetflix and chill\u201d in its most literal meaning. While your partner may be amped up for booty calls, it might take you longer to get your sexy back<\/strong>. Our best advice? Think long term (you\u2019ll be back in the saddle eventually), keep an open mind and treat yourself. You might just feel better after a long bath and a mani.<\/p>\n

Kid-free nuptials<\/strong><\/h3>\n

You probably didn\u2019t think much about kids at weddings before you had your own mini-me, but now that you\u2019re a parent, it might bug you when you\u2019re invited to celebrate someone\u2019s big day sans kiddos<\/strong>. If it\u2019s \u201cadults only\u201d and you want to go, get a babysitter (don\u2019t ignore the couple and show up with your brood). That said, you can skip\u2014and with good reason\u2014if you\u2019d rather RSVP by sending regrets.<\/p>\n

Stuff no one tells you<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Puppy love<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Dogs and toddlers can be super-cute together, but both canines and kids need training<\/strong>. If you have a pup, you probably started getting them used to little ones right away and have been working on it ever since your baby was born. As for your toddler, teach them how to behave around animals\u2014no pulling tails, no throwing things at them, no poking and no climbing\u2014so they can coexist together peacefully.<\/p>\n

Ankle biters<\/strong><\/h3>\n


\nHow to stop your child from hitting<\/span>
\nToddlers are all about their teeth. Not only do they explore with their mouths but some also use biting as a form of aggression<\/strong> and frustration when they can\u2019t find the words to express their emotions. Start with a firm \u201cno.\u201d If they\u2019re looking for a response, whether it\u2019s negative or neutral, your best bet is to avoid giving them any more attention. They\u2019ll grow out of it\u2014eventually.<\/p>\n

Just for fun<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Get crafty<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Tired of colouring? No prob. How about decorating Mason jars? Creating stuff with cardboard? Playing with washi tape? We have lots of fun ideas<\/strong>\u2014and not all of them will make a huge mess.<\/p>\n
