Disturbed Show

For true Disturbed fans it’s possible you remember just where you were the first time you heard “Stupify” or “Down with the Sickness.” Similar thoughts and questions most likely arose in your mind as you head bobbed willingly to the sound, “Who is this band?”, “Who’s voice is that?”, “These guys sound amazing!”. Their unique sound was unmistakable and turned them into a top rock band almost overnight with their release of the album, “The Sickness.” Rock fans of all ages flocked to own this album and their songs rang out from high school locker rooms to commuters heading to work. David Draimen’s voice was like nothing anyone had ever heard. It was edgy like a lead howler, but yet harmonious and smooth, penetrating your soul as if he was only singing to you alone.

The band has always stayed true to themselves by putting difficult subjects and controversial subject matter into its lyrics. However, the message was never to degrade anyone or single out a particular demographic, but instead bring attention to the masses and send a message of strength and unity. This was obvious upon their release of Disturbed’s second album “Believe.” Across the cover was a mashing of many symbols of religion. Again, this was not meant to say any one religion is better than the rest, but everyone must have something to believe and we must all unit together in love if we are to progress.

The music of Disturbed has continued to be controversial for some, but undeniably full of meaning and has touched the fans deeply over the course of 20 years. Not many albums can one put on and listen to start to finish and feel changed as a person after it’s complete. Afterwards, only to find yourself replaying it from the top and listening completely through again. This is the kind of story arc the fans have grown to love and come to expect from their albums. This latest release of “Evolution” has reignited that feeling we all had 20 years ago.

Nostalgia is a powerful drug and you’re sure to get a strong dose when you see them live for their latest world tour. Disturbed has been putting on one of the best rock shows of all time for years. You’ll feel the heat (literally) and the emotion from start to finish as they pour out their message and share themselves with you. You might not believe it’s possible to share intimate moments with a heavy metal rock band, but then again, there is no other band like Disturbed.

One of the most impressive shows of humility and kindness was a moment when David retold the concert crowd a touching story about two fans, Paige and Morgan, who gave him a letter earlier at a meet and greet, describing how important and helpful Disturbed’s new album had become to them after a personal loss. He then brought both of them on stage and performed the song that Paige had listened to
on repeat after her dad’s death. The self-awareness, humility, and strong will to help and connect was evident in David’s every word and every lyric.

Disturbed Concert Crowd

What was great and also surprising to see was how diverse the age demographics, as well as the gender demographics of the concert goers for Disturbed were. Unlike many other bands that attract mostly female or mostly male, or a specific age population, Disturbed seems to appeal to young and old, male and female. There were families of several generations at the concert. You could see couples, moms and daughters, dads and sons, the whole family unit with grown adult children, as well as teenagers. Some families brought their school aged children, most likely to introduce them to their favorite bands. Everyone was able to relate to the lyrics and the energy of the band, chanting words and pumping fists in unison, like one, regardless of the background, age, sex or political affiliation.

Disturbed Concert Message

Unlike many other bands in this verticle, Disturbed did not come out on stage to just play music. They came out to energize the crowd, to spread their message, and to inspire. And they succeeded.
Their show message, like their whole album, was one of unity. To come together as one against the powers that make us divided. To question the status quo. To be united and supportive of each other. To help those who struggle. To stand up to mindless wars and political division that is created to control us. To fight depression, addiction and suicide. To take down barriers that keep us from being happy and being together. To connect despite our backgrounds, religious and political beliefs, race and sex. Many of the songs of their newest album Evolution, echoed that message, which made it even more powerful.

There wasn’t a single person in the Disturbed concert crowd that left uninspired. I know we went home full of the will to fight, with open hearts and lots of love for our human race.
